Book Blurb:
“Diverse, dark-humored, and deliciously bite-sized, this compelling collection of 12 short stories by JT Lawrence include:
“Escape” – A story about about a suicidal baby who knows he was born into the wrong life, and has to get creative to correct the mistake, much to his mother’s horror.
“The Itch” – An intense, uncontrollable, unexplainable itch lands the protagonist in a mental institution.
“Bridge Gate” – In this poignant and charming short story, a daughter yearns to connect with her absent father through the letters they exchange. She’s not put off by his pedantic corrections of her writing, despite the slow reveal that he is less than perfect himself.
“The Unsuspecting Gold-Digger” – A woman gradually poisons her husband so that she doesn’t have to break his heart.”
My Thoughts:
Welcome to my quick review of these 12 short stories, the title alone conjures up images that the stories contained within do their best to play on. If your expecting sunshine and normality then turn around and go back the way you came, this little lot takes a road straight down route strange.
Each one of these oddities played with a different part of my mind and psychy. I enjoyed how they each dealt with a totally different subject, not knowing what you were going to get next.
I do enjoy the writing style of JT Lawrence, having read several of her other books the writing remains strong.
The storyteller for this plethora of randomness is Bianca Flanders, who’s style of reading drips like pure bliss.
If you want something refreshingly strange then this is one I recommend and have just discovered there is another two collections which I am looking forward to
