Scared to Death is the first book in a new crime thriller series featuring Kay Hunter – a detective with a hidden past and an uncertain future…. “
My thoughts:
Here begins the first of a five book series, where we meet Detective Kay Hunter.
I had seen the name Rachel Amphlett around but had never read any of her books, when I was contacted through twitter giving me the opportunity to review this series I jumped at the chance.
I really enjoyed the story of this first one, the concept of not simply dying but being scared to death intrigued my imagination.
We find Kay Hunter dealing with several things while still trying to be a detective. With her past still hanging darkly over her head, Kay throws herself headlong into solving this case.
The story kept me guessing, it was not till near the very end I finally worked it out, a feature I always like.
Each of the characters fit together like a perfect jigsaw, I felt an immediate connection with Kay and her husband. It was an emotional roller-coaster for all the characters, the victims, the kidnappers and for me.
The narrator for this first book is Alison Campbell, if I am honest, at first her voice felt a bit monotonous, but give it time, she quickly settles in and she tells a great story.
I welcome you all to the entrance of the world of Detective Kay Hunter, a brilliant introduction to a series I feel I’m going to really enjoy, I’ll see you all after book two.
